Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inch (3.18 cm) in height, the top of the shield embattled and blazoned as follows: Per pale Sanguine and Argent, in dexter a demi-compass rose issuant from the partition throughout and in sinister a sword palewise point to base, entwined by a serpent with head resting on the guard, all Argent (Silver).  Attached below the shield, a silver scroll inscribed “EXCELLENCE DEFINED” in Maroon.

Symbolism

Maroon and white are the traditional colors of the Army Medical Department, while silver alludes to the tools used in dentistry.  The embattled top of the shield further suggests the unit’s mission to provide preventative and sustaining dental services in support of the Total Force.  The demi-compass rose represents the large geographical area the DHC-C covers, extending from the center to the north, south, and west areas.  The sword is a symbol of command and authority.  Coupled with the serpent, it signifies the Rod of Asclepius, a symbol of healing and medicine.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved 02 June 2022.
